Gothamist points to a Transportation Alternatives report stating that the city needs something like 28,000 more outdoor bike racks. Well, 28,000 racks will not appear overnight, but there is a way to request a rack from the city. The CITYRACKS program will install a rack free of charge on city property upon request. There is a form available online to make such a request.
