Tagging of information and websites seems to have become all the rage online. Now foundcity takes it to the streets:

FoundCity is a collective mapping tool. It allows everyone in a city to map the interesting things they discover throughout the day to a dynamic online map, where they can then compare their points of interest with other people’s points. In doing so they both share what they like about the city with others, and discover what other people find fascinating about the city. It is an open-ended, continually evolving tour guide to the city.

Foundcity allows participants to tag various points of interest around the city with keywords by sending text messages from their cell phones. On the web side, foundcity extends Google Maps and gives the tags geographic context.

Garbage Truck ToyIn celebration of the New York City Department of Sanitation’s 75th Anniversary, the CityStore is selling scale replicas of an authentic NYC garbage truck. It looks like it comes with a couple of scale garbage cans to play with; wouldn’t it be more authentic if it came with a pile of garbage bags and a 1:34 scale rat?

By the way, profits from the NYC CityStore go to a great cause:

All proceeds from CityStore go to the City of New York’s General Fund, which funds all government activities, including public safety, health services, parks maintenance and other municipal services. CityStore is operated by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).

On the road today and there isn’t so much time to write. So, here are a few stories to ponder on Earth Day:

I quietly launched a new photoblog called high infrequency a couple weeks ago. Since the purchase of a new camera, I’ve wanted a better place to show photos than the gallery on this site. So, please, check it out if you are interested.
