Wow, the MTA actually listens to their riders:

(via email)

Dear NYC Transit E-mail subscriber:

Thank you for your participation in the e-mail pilot and providing us with your comments and suggestions.

In response to customer requests, starting this week we will send you one e-mail with scheduled service changes only for the lines you requested.

This streamlined e-mail will be sent to you on Fridays instead of Wednesdays, beginning July 1. The July 1 advisories will contain the information for this weekend and the following weekend (July 9-10).

In the coming months, we will be expanding the program to offer e-mail for all service changes: weekday, late at night, and special alerts for unexpected service disruptions.

We appreciate your patience and your valuable feedback. Please let us know how this new change is working for you. You are helping us build and improve this program.

Thank you.

Who knew?

Stillwell Ave StationTreehugger reports that the MTA is powering the newly renovated Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station with solar energy. The station is equipped with 60,000 feet of photovoltaic panels on the roof that will produce approximately 210 kilowatts of power.

The MTA’s Green Building Page also features another interesting project. The New Corona Car Washer Facility (think trains not Volkswagens) will utilize collected rain water, natural lighting and air circulation. These green features will reduce water used from the city water supply as well as the electricity needed to light the building.

Hilton Clock RadioHilton has these great clock radios in some of their rooms. It allows one to plug in their audio weapon of choice for in room music enjoyment. The speaker quality leaves a bit to be desired, but it beats walking around the room with headphones on. Also take note of the large “Pop”, “R&B”, “Jazz”, and “Soft Rock” selection buttons on the top of the radio. With a push of a button, the weary traveler can hear some tunes from the genre of their choice. Well, provided their choice is one of the four provided.
