Vi is powerful stuff. But, as with many “power” applications, the learning curve is steep. The University of California, San Diego has a great beginner’s guide to Vi. There is no dearth of HOWTOs and guides to Vi, but this is one of the better ones that I have seen. If you spend any time on *nix systems and have been shying away from using Vi for text editing, this guide is worth a look.
