Care for a giant game of Risk? Enter World of Fourcraft, which uses Foursquare to turn the five boroughs of New York into a sort of virtual board game. Looks like a good reason to start checking in with Foursquare again.

The Frying Dutchmen Lands in NYC

A new food truck is coming to the streets of New York. The Frying Dutchmen will be a mobile friets truck, plying the avenues between SoHo and Murray Hill. Fried potatoes with a selection of dipping sauces will surely be a hit on with the revelers in both neighborhoods.

No word on whether the name is a shout out to the all-you-can-eat seafood buffet of a similar name from the Simpsons, or just a a reference to the owner’s love of a certain burg on the Amstel.

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs

It isn’t all that surprising that Forest City Ratner is seriously considering building a 34 story, pre-fab, modular tower to satisfy affordable housing requirements. This is just one of many promises that will be unkept on the Atlantic Yards project. This particular promise was to the construction workers who stood to gain quite a few jobs out of this project. But, modular construction means far fewer construction jobs.

But it would also infuriate the construction workers who were Mr. Ratner’s most ardent supporters during years of stormy community meetings, where they drowned out neighborhood opponents with chants of, “Jobs, jobs, jobs.”

There should also be some safety concerns about a modular tower that high. It’s probably not going to look all that wonderful either. Then again, I doubt anything built on that site will be all that aesthetically pleasing, prefab or not.

Motorcycle Parking at NYC Muni-Meters

There is some confusion among New York City motorcyclists and scooterists about how to legally park (e.g. avoid parking tickets) at a muni-meter. Some think that motorcyclists should pay and attach the receipt to the bike, others hold that one should pay at the muni-meter and hold on to the receipt in case a parking ticket is issued, while others claim there is no need to pay at all.

According to the DOT, motorcyclists must pay at muni-meters AND display the receipt on on the motorcyclists:

Like other motorists, motorcyclists using Pay and Display Muni-Meters, must display their receipt on their vehicle. To prevent theft or damage to the receipt, DOT recommends using clear plastic holders attached to the motorcycle with a lock or other mechanism. Devices made especially for this purpose can be found in specialty stores.

The locking mechanism pictured above seems a little ridiculous. But, if you really want one, you can purchase a locking parking permit holder from Login Parking.
