iSubway

*** As of 2004-10-08, the iSubway files are no longer being updated. An explanation for this can be found on my blog. Sorry for the inconvenience. ***

iSubway is an iPod friendly listing of New York City MTA Subway service updates. This project was born of frustration with weekend train diversions and inspired by piPod. The MTA posts service updates on Fridays. Every effort will be made to update the iSubway files as soon as the MTA updates are available.

The most recent iSubway files are always available on this page. Updates will also be posted to jpreardon.com as soon as they are available. If you are using a news reader, there is an RSS feed available as well.

Please contact me if you notice any errors or omissions and I will fix them as soon as possible. Also, don't hesitate to offer any suggestions of comments.

Installing iSubway

You will need a notes capable iPod for this to work. Early generation iPods do not support notes, sorry.

  1. Download iSubway.zip to your computer.
  2. Unzip or unstuff iSubway.zip to your Desktop.
  3. If it is not already connected, connect your iPod to your computer. Your iPod must have disk use enabled.
  4. Drag the iSubway folder to the Notes folder on your iPod.
  5. Unmount or eject your iPod.
  6. Ride the subway!
  7. Unfortunately, version 1 of iSubway does not update automatically each week. Please follow these directions again when the weekly update is available.

Using iSubway

iSubway is very simple to use. Go to Extras > Notes on your iPod and select iSubway. All subway lines are listed alphabetically.

Thank you for using iSubway!
