In the continuing effort to close the city’s budget gap, Mayor Bloomberg signed a bill into law increasing city income taxes for earner’s in the top 5%. The New York Times reports that the tax will be retroactive to January but the tax will start coming out of paychecks within the next two weeks. This is a temporary tax increase that will be phased out over the next two years.
