Pinball is Still Alive in New York
It’s nice that there are still some pinball machines around. At this point, even the video games that contributed to pinball’s demise are increasingly difficult to find. The Times visits a few places (mostly in Brooklyn) where one can still pass time with the silver ball.
Don’t miss the accompanying slide show. Note that the first picture is of one of my all-time favorite machines, Funhouse. I dropped a lot of quarters in that game.
If only I had enough room in my apartment to start a collection…

36 Hours in Queens
The “36 Hours” articles in The Times are usually quite good, 36 Hours in Queens is no exception.
News to Me: Kurtis Blow Leads a Hip-hop Tour
“Tour” as in “see the sights” not “hang with groupies”. Although, I haven’t been on this tour, so maybe… See Follow That Tourist for more information.

Visitor’s Guide to Eating in NYC
Visiting NYC? Where to Eat in New York, The Best Restaurants And More on Serious Eats is the most comprehensive guide to New York restaurants (geared towards visitors) that I’ve seen. No, it’s not Zagat, and yes, many of these places are super well known, but it’s a really good guide nonetheless.
One of my favorite quotes from the article:
If you’re accustomed to cities where you can walk into most restaurants on a Friday night and get seated within half an hour, New York’s crowds may come as a shock.
Yeah, welcome to the jungle, kids.
