K4WLS QSLA few months ago, I got my amateur radio license–something I’ve wanted to do since I was a teenager. Over the weekend, I made my first HF contact on 10 meters with K4WLS in Atlanta. He gave me what I suspect is a fairly generous 56 signal report. I was just excited that he could hear me at all.

Soon, I’ll try to write a bit more about the experience of getting the license and the challenges of setting up a meager station in a small apartment.

† For the record, my first contact was with my friend Paul (KC2LKM) on VHF. I’m not sure if that really counts though since we were talking on the phone at the same time…
