Stillwell Ave StationTreehugger reports that the MTA is powering the newly renovated Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station with solar energy. The station is equipped with 60,000 feet of photovoltaic panels on the roof that will produce approximately 210 kilowatts of power.

The MTA’s Green Building Page also features another interesting project. The New Corona Car Washer Facility (think trains not Volkswagens) will utilize collected rain water, natural lighting and air circulation. These green features will reduce water used from the city water supply as well as the electricity needed to light the building.
